Reminisce
A program I performed on March 29, 2021 at the Frost School of Music (University of Miami). Reminisce musically invites the audience to look back on moments in their past. On this program I used Christopher Cerrone’s Memory Palace as a framing device, with movements interspersed throughout the the recital. I always imagined these movements to be symbolic of a person in their living space (whether that be the performer or the listener) who is reflecting on moments from their past. The remaining three works on the program (Ceci n’est pas une balle, Madera Viento y Metal, and Fertility Rites) represent “flashbacks” and serve as prompts for the listener’s reflection. The listener is encouraged to engage in this reflective practice. The performance is structured so that the first “prompt” is more concrete with Ceci n’est pas une balle and slowly abstracts to allow the listener’s mind to wander into a path unique to them.
I have posted the three “reflection prompts” pieces here.
